Il Cuore Della Macchina

Benvenuti amici!

I spend what may seem, to some… many, too much time searching the internet for photos not often shared. Along with writing FIAT life enthusiast-specific original stories, the visual feast of Italian industrial artwork is what the CC5C blog, along with its sister Facebook page, is at its essence. Still, there are times I come across information & photos I would characterize as extra special. The group of photos shared in this entry are a prime example one of those extra special finds. Every time, the discoveries work to further cement the fact FIATs… in any & every iteration… equate to MODern Art on Wheels.

Though I don't write about or discuss it often, FIAT has a long history with the bicycle, scooter and motorcycle industries. Your eyes do not deceive you, my friends. The first mass producer of automobiles a/k/a the automaker responsible for mobilizing Italy and other parts of Europe did not limit that movement to four wheels. For evidence, one has only to consider the partnership with Bianchi, Vespa was held by the Agnelli family from 1959 until 1999 and FIAT has sponsored MotoGP for many years.

But not until this month had I read anything like the North Coast Customs | FIAT ABARTH project. Designing and building around a vintage FIAT 500 (Cinquino) motor, Francesco Bella created what I think is one of the finest modern examples of the classic Italian Café Racer. This custom sports bike includes details created specifically for this effort as well as vintage ABARTH & Co. badging and other FIAT-related livery features.

This gorgeous work of metallic mastery placed third in the American Motorcycle Design (AMD) World Championship of 2014. The AMD focuses on custom builds. As you can see, pictured below, AMD champion-level motorbikes are futuristic and exciting while maintaing the spirit of the Glory Days. So, it is with great pride I present these photos for your viewing pleasure. It is further proof of the limitless inspiration drawn from the late, great don Dante Giacosa and requires no more words. Behold!
